The Upstream Americas portfolio today generates significant cash flow from core producing areas. We explore for and extract crude oil and natural gas, often in joint ventures with international and national oil companies. We have a robust portfolio of deepwater and onshore acreage across the Americas to ensure sustained production. The Gas Monetization business focuses on ways to leverage Shells significant natural gas position in new and existing markets, such as converting natural gas to liquids (GTL) to provide cleaner burning fuels. Successful candidate will become a member of the Onshore Project Development organization based in Warrendale, PA that will be advancing development plans for short to medium term projects in Shells growing unconventional shale gas resource plays in Pennsylvania
As part of the Shell Appalachia surface facilities team, the individual will focus on providing front end project development input and conceptual designs to all aspects of Shells Development and Exploration activities. This includes supporting early project / field development planning, front end facilities project development and appraisal of emerging Exploration opportunities
The individual will work with multi-disciplined teams and will be responsible for integrating inputs from surface, subsurface, wells, surveillance, operations, land, regulatory and project risks (including non-technical risks) into project evaluations and concept
The individual will be responsible for leading the identification and evaluation of surface facilities development opportunities within the Appalachia Development business and providing input to longer term Business Plans
Development – define and develop specific development opportunities within Appalachia Development
Champion opportunity management, decision quality processes and practices and specifically, drive the need for and implementation of ESSA (Eliminate, Simplify, Standardise and Automate)
Overall Development Opportunity Coordination – Coordinate the surface facilities activities and lead weekly meetings with a multi-disciplined team. Team member disciplines include; geology, reservoir, drilling, well completions, operations, regulatory, public consultation, surface/sub-surface land, survey and logistics
Also responsible to work with EPC contractors and consultants during the front end concept development activities
Develop and manage integrated project schedule on multiple integrated projects
Evaluate project risks and manage risk register
Develop standard competitive catalogue designs to simplify repetitive facilities work
Field Development Planning – responsible for life cycle planning with an understanding of optimal reserve recovery by working closely within a multi-discipline team
Surveillance – Understand existing surface facilities capabilities and utilization
Facilities Consultant – Handling internal and external queries with respect to costs/opportunities, public consultation, etc
Provide mentorship to less experienced Development Engineers
Operational Optimization working with Operations to define and develop operational optimization opportunities
Interface with surveillance, wells and facilities group in field development planning
E&P professional with a minimum 8 yrs of direct Project Development (Concept) engineering and/or Project Management experience
Direct experience as a front end project engineer (concept) in unconventional oil or gas Exploration and Development is highly desirable
Experience in Project Management and Operations Engineering involving all steps from initial assessment of potential opportunities, to execution of the final concept
Ability to effectively manage and lead the critical front end of opportunities within a multi-discipline team and deliver robust, well defined projects for project execution
Ability to work effectively with Exploration, Wells, Operations, and Venture organizations with minimal direct supervision
Ability to view the issues from a broad perspective and apply creativity
Must be a good communicator and able to constructively facilitate, integrate and manage cross-functional issues
Must be willing and able to coach and mentor less experienced engineers
Ideally, should have experience in unconventional tight oil or gas development, either in new play Exploration or established development areas
Ideally, should have a demonstrated business / commercial / economic know-how with experience in doing development and commercial work, as well as experience with regulatory application preparation and advancement and technology development
Key Competences required:
Core Petroleum Engineering / Process (Concept) Development Engineering and/or Mechanical Engineering
Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated competence in unconventional oil and gas field development
Strong knowledge of well site and surface facility processes and design
Demonstrated willingness to learn and import best practices from elsewhere
Commercial and communication skills are a benefit
Proven track record of fit-for-purpose application and delivery
